Academy and SOTA parents and staff want to thank Supervisor Bevan Dufty's office for quickly facilitating the repair of the pedestrian traffic island at Portola and O'Shaugnessy just before the opening of school.
On the Friday before school opened, the traffic island at this busy intersection was completely barricaded for repairs, unusable by the scores of students who cross through the intersection each day. When a parent reported this pedestrian safety issue, Supervisor Dufty's staff immediately contacted the Department of Public Works, which arranged a crew to work all through the weekend to fix the problem. By the opening of school on Monday morning, the traffic island had been reopened with seemingly miraculous speed. For helping to keep our children safe, the SOTA/Academy community express our heartfelt thanks to Supervisor Dufty's staff and the Department of Public Works. With this success as a springboard, it would be great if Sup. Dufty could help get this intersection scheduled for redesign with an eye to traffic calming, like other major intersections that have high volumes of both pedestrians and traffic.
